Observe, discuss, reflect

At the end of a course, reflect on how you taught your online course, how effective the learning strategies and the assessments were, and what learners thought. How well did you engage learners and keep them on track? What do you need to change for future iterations?

Use the following triggers for reflection:

  • Learner feedback
  • Self-reflection as well as reflection from your peers
  • Analytics

Think about

  • Course content – How well did learners grasp content? Were learner queries addressed in timely and effective way? Did the responses you provided support the learner in better understanding the content?
  • Activities – What proportion of learners engaged in activities? To what effect?
  • Assessments – How well did learners complete assessment tasks? What did learners say about these tasks?
  • Feedback to learners – Did you provide effective feedback? Did you support learners to progress successfully?
  • Feedback from learners – What learner feedback could be incorporated into the delivery of the course to enhance the learner experience, and to make your facilitation of the course more effective?
  • Engaging learners – How engaged were the learners? What feedback did learners provide that I can apply in my next online delivery?
  • Analytics – What activities most engaged learners? What activities least engaged learners?

Now….

Reflect on the facilitation of your online course as guided by the prompts provided above and propose improvements for the next delivery of your course.
